A word, an image, a scene in a film, a politician’s warning: whatever the senses take in goes on working in us without asking. Advertising knows it; so does power. The first act of reading between the lines is a strong filter over what we let in.
Sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch — the same instruments a cat or a crow has. If that were all we had, we would be what they are. The difference must be substantial, and it is not found at this layer; the body only hands the signal down.
Students who unscrambled words about old age walked more slowly down the hall, and never knew why. Hold a pendulum still and only think of it swinging — it swings. A thought produces movement with no effort at all. Psychology as it is taught stops here, and calls it the bottom.
Thoughts shape intentions, intentions shape emotions, emotions drive what we do. A phrase repeated to ourselves — talqin, what the West calls affirmation — shapes personality more than any circumstance; repeated against others, it reaches them too. Like a stone in still water, a word sends rings that do not stop at the shore.
Strike a tuning fork and the fork of the same frequency across the room answers; a different one stays silent. Thoughts carry frequencies in the same way, and when thought, intention and emotion are in harmony, what we are tuned to responds — within the framework of divine will. Nothing is lost, nothing created: everything is transformed.
The soul comes from an infinite source, and God has given us faculties that reach beyond time and space: reflection, will, reason, remembrance of Him, intuition. At this depth an atom’s weight of good or of evil is already seen. A committed decision — I will do it now — needs no time at all: touch the depth of a thing and the effect reaches everything it belongs to at once, however long such things usually take.
